Gordon Banks is renown in English History as being one of the greatest goal keepers of both his own generation and generations which have followed.

What he is known for most is his part in England's triumphant 1966 World Cup victory in which he assisted greatly in the 4-2 win against West Germany in the Wembley final. Banks was capped 73 times by England until he retired in 1972 at the age of 34.

As well as his heroic part in English football history, Gordan Banks also enjoyed his career in clubs such as Leister City, which he remained for 8 years, and then 5 seasons with Stoke. In 1972 Banks was named Football Writer's Player of the Year.
